Maryland Requirements to owning and carrying a firearm
Maryland is a fairly restrictive state when it comes to firearms ownership.
In order to buy a regulated firearm one needs to apply for an HQL (Handgun Qualification License). There is a training prerequisite in order to apply for an HQL. Legally the class must be four hours long and covers the most basic aspects to firearm ownership and safety.
Maryland requires a separate application for people who want to exercise their Second Amendment right to carry a firearm outside of their home, on their person. Our Wear and Carry 16-hour class is sufficient for the training element for this application and the HQL application. There is range time included in this class. Applicants will fire between 25 and 50 rounds in different courses of fire in order to show firearm competency. This course enables one to apply for the both the HQL and the Wear and Carry Permit.
